Comparing Honda Civic vs. Accord: Which One is Right For You?
How to Choose Between the Honda Civic and Honda Accord
If you’re in the market for a new car, you can’t go wrong choosing a Honda Civic or Honda Accord. The two fuel-efficient and innovative vehicles have been top choices for decades, and the newest models continue to lead their respective car classes. Both are spacious and loaded with popular features. You’ll find both Honda models at Northside Honda near Alamo Heights and Hollywood Park.
Powertrains and Safety Features
The Honda Civic is an award-winning compact car that is fun to drive and practical. The base powertrain is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 158 horsepower, and some trim levels have a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder with 180 horsepower. Both engines and all hatchback and sedan Civic trims have continuously variable automatic transmission and front-wheel drive.
Of course, Honda still offers the sporty Civic Si and Civic Type R. The Civic Si is only available as a sedan and its turbocharged engine is tuned to deliver 200 horsepower. On the flip side, the Type R is only available as a hatchback and comes with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that delivers 315 horsepower.
The Honda Accord LX and EX trims have more power thanks to the standard turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder with 192 horsepower. Like the Civic, the Accord comes standard with front-wheel drive and a continuously variable automatic transmission. The Honda Accord Hybrid comes with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine paired with two electric motors. This configuration delivers 204 horsepower and is standard in the Sport, EX-L, Sport-L, and Touring trims.
When it comes to fuel economy, the Accord Hybrid models are at the top with an EPA-estimated 51/28 MPG. The standard Accord delivers an EPA-estimated fuel rating of 29/37 MPG. The Civic EX with the turbocharged 1.5-liter engine gets the best fuel economy rating in the Civic lineup with 33/42 MPG.
Entry-level Accord LX and Civic LX come standard with the Honda Sensing suite of driver-assistance features. Both vehicles come with Lane-Departure Warning, Forward Collision Warning, Forward Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane-Keep Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, Traffic-Sign Recognition, and a Rearview Camera. The Accord also has Pedestrian and Cyclist Detection, Automatic High-Beam Headlights, and a Rear-Seat Alert.
Comfort and High-Tech Interiors
The Honda Civic interior and Honda Accord interior have similar features. Both seat five on comfortable cloth upholstery with manually adjustable front seats. Both have a 7.0-inch infotainment system, dual-zone automatic climate control, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a four-speaker stereo. Upper-level trims have leather-trimmed seats, wireless phone chargers, and larger touch screens.
Honda recognizes the importance of cargo space in both models. The Accord has 16.7 cubic feet of cargo space in the truck, while the Civic sedan has 14.8 cubic feet of truck space. The Civic Hatchback has a surprisingly large 24.5 cubic feet of cargo space – enough for a full-size bicycle.
